Do you dare to enter the Palazzo delle Prigioni and discover the darkest secrets of the Serenissima? With your ticket to the Maleficia exhibition, you'll discover the history of those condemned to death by the Inquisition and the instruments of torture of the time.
Why Visit the Maleficia Exhibition?
With this ticket, you can access the Maleficia exhibition: inquisition, torture and witchcraft between the 15th and 18th centuries, located inside the Palazzo delle Prigioni. This exhibition reveals the mysteries, secrets, legends and historical facts that marked the 1,000 years of the Republic of Venice.
The Palazzo delle Prigioni was the site of one of the oldest prisons in Europe. In this building, between the 15th and 18th centuries, the Tribunal of the Holy Inquisition condemned to death many women accused of sorcery and magic arts, as well as famous people such as Giacomo Casanova himself.
Once you enter Maleficia, you can explore the exhibition areas of the palace and see both original objects and faithful reproductions of the instruments used to torture the alleged heretics, such as the garrote and the stocks, as well as original documents from the period.
