At the time indicated, we'll meet at Campo San Zaccaria and start one of the must-do tours in Venice. St. Mark's Basilica and its impressive Pala D’Oro await!
Once everyone has arrived, we'll head to St. Mark's Basilica. Firstly, we'll admire its impressive facade and learn a bit about the history of this iconic monument: the most important temple in Venice.
Originally built as an extension of the Ducal Palace, the basilica was constructed to house the remains of St. Mark the Apostle, brought from Alexandria. We'll marvel at the Byzantine-style design!
Then, it's time to head inside. Here, we can see magnificent mosaics in the Ascension dome and the Atrium, where different scenes from the Old and New Testament are depicted.
Plus, we'll also head to the Pala D'Oro, one of the great masterpieces of the Byzantine goldsmiths housed in the basilica. We'll contemplate the details of the altarpiece of the main altar of St. Mark's, made of gold, silver, enamel and precious stones. You'll be left speechless!
Finally, after an hour exploring St. Mark's Basilica, we'll say our goodbyes and end this tour.
